Charity Classic Golf Outing

Menninger & Associates Charity Classic Golf Outing

Teaming up with local charities to give back to the community.

Starting in 2021, Menninger & Associates began an initiative to host an annual charity golf outing. The goal of the outing is to team up with local charities as they raise money for their respective campaigns. As the host, Menninger & Associates recruits not only golfers, but sponsors (generally other local businesses) for the event. Our firm is a strong advocate for the local community, as they are the very people that keep us in business.

For the inaugural year, we teamed up with two fantastic charities that work hard yearly in the battle against pediatric cancer. Jake’s Dragon Foundation and The Connor McKenna Foundation regularly do fundraisers and help each other out as the families are not only close, but both celebrate the lives of their young sons who fought bravely against pediatric cancer. Less than 4% of the federal budget for cancer research is dedicated to childhood cancer. Both foundations dedicate all proceeds exclusively to pediatric cancer research, which is a substantial yearly contribution, helping children across the country.

The second year, we were dedicated to helping man's best friend. Home At Last Dog Rescue is a non profit, group of volunteers whose goal is to save the lives of homeless dogs suffering in high-kill shelters, as well as owner-surrender dogs who need to be re-homed due to unfortunate circumstances. They are not a shelter, and have no central location for the dogs they rescue. They pull dogs from various shelters and provide foster homes until they are adopted. In doing so, they hope to provide an alternative to the purchase of puppy mill and pet store dogs, thereby reducing the demand for, and ultimately, the supply of, such dogs. Home At Last strives to match each dog with the right family after the dog has been observed in a foster home.

For the third annual outing, we recognized first responders by teaming up with Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Tunnel to Towers Foundation is a non-profit organization that honors the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller, who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001. They also honor our military and first responders, who continue to risk the ultimate sacrifice for our country. The name may be recognizable, as the charity was responsible for paying off the mortgage of fallen Pennsylvania State Trooper Branden Sisca as part of its annual Season of Hope Campaign. Branden is survived by his wife, Brittany, and their daughter who was born after her father was killed.

The outing's fourth year partnered with a local family whose son is battling a diagnosis of Stage 4 non‑smoking, non-small cell, lung cancer, called RET-positive. RETpositive is a patient-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit that aims to improve the quality of life and life expectancy of RET-positive cancer patients by raising awareness, providing community support and advocacy, and funding medical research for RET-driven cancer. RET-positive cancer is caused by a mutation or abnormal re-arrangement of the RET gene. It occurs most commonly in lung cancer and several types of inherited and sporadic thyroid cancers. RET alterations also occur in an estimated 1-2% of multiple other cancers, including ovarian, pancreatic, salivary, breast, and colorectal cancers. 100% of RETpositive donations go directly to research. To donate to RET cancer research.

In the fifth year of the outing, the charity chosen was Abbey's Bakery. Abbey’s Bakery was founded to honor the life and legacy of Abbey Wolf, who we lost way too early.  Abbey was vibrant and kind with an infectious laugh. She was loved and admired by all that knew her and was everyone's friend. Abbey was compassionate, creative, driven, smart, funny and full of life. Abbey was a daughter, a sister, a grandchild, a niece, a friend, an athlete, and a crafter. Abbey was happiest when she was baking though.  She found peace when she was working in the kitchen and joy when she shared her delicious treats with friends and family. She seasoned everything with her secret ingredient: Love.  Sadly, Abbey also silently battled depression and anxiety.  We tragically lost Abbey to suicide on November 7th, 2020. She was just 14-years old. Abbey's Bakery is dedicated to sharing Abbey's story, promoting mental health awareness & suicide prevention and providing resources to those who may be suffering.

For the sixth annual outing, our team partnered with Montgomery County Hero Fund. The Montgomery County Hero Fund was established with one mission in mind: to ensure the sacrifices made by Montgomery County's first responders are never forgotten and that their families are cared for when tragedy strikes. Founded in 2012 by Sharon and Sean E. Cullen following the line-of-duty death of Plymouth Township Police Officer and United States Marine Corps veteran Brad Fox, the nonprofit provides immediate and ongoing assistance to law enforcement officers, firefighters, paramedics, military personnel, and other first responders who are injured or lose their lives while serving the community. By standing beside these heroes and their loved ones during life's most difficult moments, the organization helps ensure that no family has to face tragedy alone.
