For the second year, local financial planning firm, Menninger & Associates hosted their annual charity golf outing. Always aiming to support a local charity that could use help funding, this event is special to the firm. Every year, 6.5 million dogs and cats are abandoned or lost and enter animal shelters. Of these, only 3.2 million are adopted and many see shelters again after less than a year of finding a new home. Each year, Around 689,000 Shelter Animals are Euthanized each year including 359,000 Dogs and 330,000 Cats.* After learning this information from publicist Kevin Burke who recently adopted a puppy, Menninger & Associates knew that they had found the perfect foundation for their second annual charity golf outing. Home At Last Dog Rescue aims to put a leash on these numbers and place sheltered dogs into loving homes. When it comes to a new furry family member their motto is, don't shop - adopt! Most people aren't aware that most puppies are from mills, and many pet stores will not disclose that fact to buyers.
The Second Chance Charity Golf Outing saw 90 golfers compete at the prestigious grounds of Brookside Country Club in Pottstown, PA. Despite midsummer rain forecasts, golfers teed off on time in a scramble format with a few mini games to help fundraising along the way. One of which, saw the outing host Michael Menninger challenge golfers to outshoot him on the course’s signature par 3, and another where the ‘Blind Tee Shot’ led to a foursome chip in for eagle! The final event of the day was the putting contest, which included 10 qualifiers from earlier in the day. The first putter laid up two feet from the hole from a 40-foot, winding distance. It took the final putter to dethrone him and almost sunk their shot. The winner, when awarded his 50/50 winnings promptly donated it right to the charity. This was a perfect illustration of how the day went. It was truly a charitable event full of golf, great food & beverage, and DOGS! Home At Last brought a couple dogs to the course that were looking for a new home. It was more of a challenge for golfers not to take a dog home than the round of golf. The day was beautifully captured by photographer and bronze sponsor, Kailey Edwards.
The dinner provided by Mike Sloane’s team at Brookside Country Club topped the day off. From prime rib to chicken marsala and even an ice cream bar, golfers ended a full round of 18 holes with a hearty dinner. Following the awards ceremony (which the winning foursome took home crystal trophies and a box of Titleist ProV1 golf balls) came auction and raffle baskets. The baskets were a big hit, raising even more money for the charity. Menninger & Associates provided ten auction and raffle baskets packed with various items. One basket, however, was donated by Wendy and Dan Grayauskie valued at $400. Not only did they donate a basket for the event but offered their time as well. Wendy set up and helped where needed while Dan golfed with his team of four. That was the overall feel of support, effort, and sacrifice that Home At Last volunteers offer.
The outing received overwhelming support from local businesses. In all, there were 34 total sponsors on a tiered level of sponsorship. The premier sponsors included: Bath Fitter, Limerick Living, Hallam Engineering & Construction, Kailey Edwards Photography, Well Crafted Brewery, Sandy Bocchino (realtor), Blue Bell’s Finest, Nothing Bundt Cakes, J.M. Pereira & Sons, Buligo Capital, Boomtown Internet Group, J.P. Morgan, Upper Providence Living, the Grayauskie Family and of course, Menninger & Associates.
The Second Chance Golf Outing was a reminder of how much of an impact a group of volunteers can make for a great cause. With another successful year, and over $10,000 raised, Menninger & Associates looks forward to next year’s outing for another great cause.
Home At Last is a growing rescue group that is putting a serious dent in puppy mill sales in the Pennsylvania region. They are in constant need of volunteers who can assist in saving the lives of at-risk dogs.
