Pennsylvania Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program
March 13, 2026
Hello everyone,
We wanted to share a potential Pennsylvania tax rebate opportunity of up to $1,000!
It may or may not apply to you, but our job is to make sure you’re aware of opportunities like this so nothing slips through the cracks. We’ve created a short guide outlining eligibility and how to apply.
If it looks like a fit, follow the instructions provided. If you’re unsure, just reach out! We’re happy to help you determine whether it makes sense in your situation. While this may not apply to you, it may apply to someone you know.
We want to make you aware of a Pennsylvania state program that may provide a rebate of up to $1,000, and in some cases up to $1,500, for eligible residents. This is not a rebate that you automatically get every year. You must file every year to receive the rebate. Applications for the 2025 Property Tax/Rent Rebates must be submitted by June 30, 2026.
Pennsylvania’s Property Tax / Rent Rebate Program is designed to help certain seniors, widows or widowers, and individuals with disabilities offset property taxes or rent paid on their primary residence.
You may qualify if you are one of the following:
- Are age 65 or older
- Are a qualifying widow or widower age 50 or older
- Are an individual with a disability age 18 or older
If you fall into one of the categories above, you must meet the following criteria:
- Paid rent or property taxes on your primary Pennsylvania residence
- Have total household income of $48,110 or less (for this calculation, only half of Social Security income is counted toward household income)
The rebate amount is not all-or-nothing. It generally phases in and phases out based on income, meaning individuals near the income limit may still qualify for a partial rebate.
In addition to the standard rebate (up to $1,000), some applicants may qualify for a supplemental rebate of up to $500, which can increase the total benefit depending on income level and property tax burden. The supplemental rebate applies to residents of Philadelphia, Scranton, and Pittsburgh.
If you are considering applying, here is what you should gather beforehand (most of this information can be found within your tax return as well):
Proof of income, including:
- Social Security SSA-1099 (remember, only 50% of Social Security counts toward household income)
- Pension statements
- IRA/401(k) distributions (1099-R)
- Interest/dividend income (1099-INT / 1099-DIV)
- W-2 forms, if applicable
- Any other household income documentation
Proof of residency:
- If you own your home: property tax bills paid during the claim year and proof of payment
- If you rent: a completed Rent Certificate signed by your landlord and total rent paid
Personal information:
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Bank routing and account number if requesting direct deposit
Applications are submitted directly to the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue. You may file online through the myPATH system at https://mypath.pa.gov (generally the fastest option and allows direct deposit), or you may complete and mail Form PA-1000, available at https://www.revenue.pa.gov/FormsandPublications/FormsforIndividuals/PTRR/Pages/default.aspx.
At a high level, the process involves confirming eligibility, calculating total household income (again, counting only half of Social Security income), entering the total rent or property taxes paid, attaching required documentation, selecting your refund method, and submitting before the deadline.
If you believe this may apply to you or someone you know, and you would like assistance reviewing eligibility please feel free to contact our office.
